Diversity: Graduate Student Recruitment Programs: Conferences
Each year the Diversity and Education Programs Associate attends two recruiting conferences that target underrepresented students in science and engineering disciplines.
The NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) convention draws over 10,000 participants, and provides a rich source of well-qualified, African-American students who have the capacity and desire to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering. The Center has a booth at the conference where interested students can get information about the Center, details about fellowships/funding opportunities, and application information. With more than 20,000 members, the National Society of Black Engineers, NSBE is the largest student-managed organization in the world. NSBE’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.
Nano-CEMMS also hosts an exhibit at the SHPE (Society of Latino Professional Engineers) Career and Exhibition Fair, primarily for the purpose of recruitment. The target audience at SHPE is undergraduate students in science and engineering; specifically, potential Nano-CEMMS graduate students and students interested in attending the Nano-CEMMS Research Experience for Undergraduates summer program. SHPE is the leading social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math and science. SHPE aims to increase educational opportunities and promote professional and personal growth. |
