Diversity

Among the important goals of the Nano-CEMMS Center is increasing the number of students from underrepresented groups in science and engineering fields of study, as well as in the scientific workforce. The Center promotes recruitment of students from traditionally underrepresented groups, mentoring for students once on campus, educational outreach programs that increase awareness of nanoscience-related research and student research programs that support this focus area.

The College of Engineering and the University of Illinois ensure that Nano-CEMMS’ initiatives are fully integrated into College- and University-wide programs aimed at enhancing diversity at all levels of education. Center activities are integrated into campus programs in terms of outreach, scholarships, graduate student recruiting, retention, and faculty recruiting.
