Diversity: Graduate Student Recruitment Programs: SROP
The Nano-CEMMS’ Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) usually hosts one student per year through the Summer Research Opportunities Program. SROP is under the direction of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Graduate College and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC). The program provides students from underrepresented populations in undergraduate studies at any U.S. college or university an opportunity to explore careers in research.
The overarching goal of the Nano-CEMMS SROP program is to increase the number of underrepresented students who pursue careers in nanotechnology by enhancing their preparation for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors. Students participate as a Nano-CEMMS research team member for 20 hours per week. They also attended classes in research design, methodology, data analysis, and presentation of research findings, all geared toward preparation for graduate school
