Education: High School Programs: Principal's Scholars
Nano-CEMMS, in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Materials for the Purification of Water with Systems (WaterCAMPWS), presents an engineering strand for the Principal’s Scholar Program at the University of Illinois. Nano-CEMMS educators presented nanotechnology modules to students in this program.
The Principal's Scholars Program began in 1975 as a cooperative effort between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, private industry, school personnel, students and parents. The program now encompasses 41 high schools and 29 elementary/middle schools throughout the state of Illinois.
The Principal's Scholars Program (PSP) seeks to:
- Develop critical/analytical thinking skills
- Enhance self-esteem and academic confidence
- Prepare students to compete in the global world
- Promote avid consistent parental involvement
Academic excellence is the underlying theme of this program; therefore, all participants must take a college preparatory curriculum, maintain a “B“ average or better during their tenure in elementary/middle/high school and, along with their parents, be consistent program participants.
The Principal’s Scholar Program offers qualified students exposure to a variety of special educational, cultural, and social opportunities, including academic research modules, academic competitions, summer enrichment experiences, field trips, campus visits, and recreational activities. |
